    Abstract
    Research on the Identification Study of Freshwater Fish Species and its Relationship with Water Quality in Batang Gadis River, Mandailing Natal Regency, North Sumatra Province aims to determine the types of fish found in Batang Gadis River, Mandailing Natal Regency, North Sumatra Province and to determine the relationship of water quality to the abundance and diversity of fish in Batang Gadis River, Mandailing Natal Regency, North Sumatra Province. This research was conducted from January to March 2024. The results showed that the types of fish found in the Batang Gadis River, Mandailing Natal Regency, there were 10 types of fish found, namely the Yellow Seluang fish (Rasbora lateristriata), Cencen fish (Mystacoleucus marginatus), Goldfish (Cyprinus carpio), Sepatung (Pristolepis grootii), Tilan/Lonjing (Mastacembelus erythrotaenia), Lelan (Diplochelichthys pleurotaenia), Gabus (Channa striata), Nilem/Aporas (Osteochilus vittatus), Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) and Baung (Hemibagrus nemurus). The relationship of water quality to the abundance and diversity of fish in the Batang Gadis River, Mandailing Natal Regency, North Sumatra Province such as physical parameters, namely temperature, brightness, current speed, and TSS has a very strong interpretation, while depth has a strong interpretation. Chemical parameters namely DO have a very strong interpretation while pH has a strong interpretation.
