The Role of Teacher Efficacy on Stress among Kindergarten Teachers in Medan
Abstract
Teacher stress is an experience that includes negative emotions resulting from demands that exceed the teacher's ability to resist or cope with the stressors. Kindergarten teachers in Medan can also experience stress due to several obstacles including kindergarten teachers' salaries that are still far from decent, limited learning media, and lack of parental support for teachers and schools. One of the variables related to stress is teacher efficacy. Teacher efficacy refers to teachers' belief in their ability to create an effective learning process. This study aims to determine the role of teacher efficacy on stress. The respondents in this study amounted to 94 kindergarten teachers in Medan. The scale was constructed by the researcher based on aspects of teacher efficacy from Tschannen-Moran and Hoy (2001) and aspects of stress from Kyriacou and Sutcliffe (1978) The data obtained were processed with simple linear regression analysis techniques. The results showed that the p value was .001 (p < 0.05). The results showed that there is a role of teacher efficacy on stress in kindergarten teachers in Medan.
