Background: Meningioma is a common intracranial tumor, with hormonal factors such as HER-2 and progesterone receptor (PR) expression influencing tumor behavior. HER-2 overexpression is linked to aggressive tumor grades, while PR expression is associated with benign characteristics.
Aim: This study aims to evaluate the relationship between HER-2 and PR expression with tumor grades in meningioma patients.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted at RSUP H. Adam Malik Hospital from 2017 to 2020. HER-2 and PR expression were analyzed using immunohistochemistry, and their correlations with tumor grades were assessed using statistical analysis.
Results: HER-2 overexpression was observed in 22.6% of cases, significantly correlating with higher tumor grades (p < 0.01). PR expression was detected in 50.9% of cases, primarily in Grade I meningiomas, and showed an inverse correlation with tumor grades (p < 0.05).
Conclusion: HER-2 and PR expression are valuable prognostic markers for meningioma grades. HER-2 positivity indicates aggressive tumor behavior, while PR positivity is linked to benign outcomes. These findings support further exploration of targeted therapies in meningioma management.
