    Abstract
Background: Diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) is a common complication of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Poor wound healing leads to high rates of hospitalization and increases the likelihood of lower extremity amputation which is associated with reduced quality of life and increased risk of morbidity and mortality. The proportion of T2DM with DFU in Indonesia is 8.7%. In recent years, there has been increasing interest in examining the role of vitamin D in T2DM. Vitamin D plays role in the inflammatory response, immune function, cell cycle regulation, and in various chronic diseases, including diabetes and its complications. Low serum vitamin D levels are associated with DFU. Levels of vitamin D deficiency in Indonesia is quite high with the prevalence of T2DM being also high in Indonesia. This study aims to determine the difference between vitamin D and HbA1c levels in T2DM patients with and without DFU. Subjects and Method: Analytical research with cross sectional design on 26 T2DM patients with DFU and 26 T2DM patients without DFU in H. Adam Malik Hospital in Medan from March 2024 - May 2024 who met inclusion and exclusion criteria. Blood samples were taken for vitamin D and HbA1c levels examination at the same time. Results: The vitamin D levels in T2DM patients with and without DFU is 10.5 ng/mL (3.0 – 30.9) and 18.75 ng/mL (4.8 – 33.1), respectively, with p<0.05 and the HbA1c levels in T2DM patients with and without DFU is 9.22 (2.26) and 8.32 (2.64), with P>0.05. Conclusion: There is a difference between vitamin D levels in T2DM patients with and without DFU. There is no difference between HbA1c levels in T2DM patients with and without DFU.
