    Abstract
The synthesis and analysis of shrimp shell chitosan as an adsorbent of Fe and Mn metals in well water in Medan Marelan, Paya Pasir sub-district has been successfully carried out using a laboratory experiment method. Chemically activated chitosan was synthesized from shrimp shell waste by means of deproteination, demineralization using 1.5 M HCl solution and deacetylation using 12.5 M NaOH solution. Chemically activated chitosan was synthesized from shrimp shell waste by means of chitosan that had been successfully synthesized by the chemical activation method was carbonized at a temperature of 250 ℃ for 2 hours. The SEM-EDS results obtained irregular particle sizes. The results of the XRD analysis obtained an amorphous structure. The FT-IR results obtained are functional groups CH aliphatic, NH2 (secondary Amine), C-N (Amine), C-O, NH (Primary Amine) on chemically activated chitosan adsorbent and Amide, CH aliphatic NH2 (secondary Amine), C-N (Amine), C-O, NH (Primary Amine) on physically activated chitosan adsorbent. Adsorption of Fe and Mn metals was carried out with mass composition and contact time for 30 and 60 minutes which were characterized using AAS (Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy). The results in this study showed the maximum adsorption of Fe metal on each adsorbent, namely on chemically activated shrimp shell chitosan adsorbent with a contact time of 60 minutes which showed the percentage of Fe metal absorption of 93.42% while the percentage of maximum adsorption of Mn metal on each adsorbent, namely on chemically activated shrimp shell chitosan adsorbent of 98.41%. From this maximum value, it is proven that chemically activated shrimp shell chitosan is able to reduce the concentration of Fe and Mn metals in well water and can be used as an adsorbent for Fe and Mn metals in well water in this study.
