dc.description.abstractInternet addiction refers to the excessive use of the internet that results in negative effects on an individual's life. This study aims to describe the categories of internet addiction and to map the tendencies of negative impacts of internet addiction among students at Buddhist Bodhicitta High School Medan. A total of 282 students were subjects in this study. Sampling was conducted using a probability sampling method. Two measurement tools were used in this study: the Internet Addiction Test and a self-report on the negative impacts of internet addiction, which was constructed based on six negative impacts of internet addiction: nomophobia, fear of missing out, social interaction disturbances, phubbing, procrastination, and health problems. The results show that 132 students experienced mild internet addiction, 72 students experienced moderate internet addiction, and 6 students experienced severe internet addiction. The negative impact of internet addiction most likely to appear in the mild addiction category is social interaction disturbances, with a percentage of 60% (53 students). The negative impact most likely to appear in the moderate addiction category is nomophobia, with a percentage of 79% (81 students). The negative impacts most likely to appear in the severe addiction category are social interaction disturbances, phubbing, and procrastination, with a percentage of 67% (4 students).en_US
