The misuse of slow lorises, such as their use as mystical tools or as pets, is particularly prevalent in Kuta Male Village, Karo Regency, North Sumatra. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct research regarding the perspectives of the local community in Kuta Male Village to prevent the misuse of slow lorises among the Karo people. The purpose of this study is to analyze the community's knowledge in Kuta Male Village regarding slow lorises and their misuse. Data collection was conducted in Kuta Male Village, Karo Regency, North Sumatra, from December 1 to December 30, 2023. A purposive sampling method was used to select respondents. A total of 25 individuals were interviewed during data collection. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis by grouping key themes based on frequency. The slow loris population in Kuta Male Village is approximately 1.73 individuals per km². Based on interviews with 25 respondents, the majority (48%) visually recognize the slow loris and describe it as resembling a cat, while 44% think it looks similar to a monkey. However, most residents lack in-depth knowledge about the species, with 40% of respondents unaware of how many types of slow lorises are found in the area around Kuta Male Village. All respondents (100%) stated that they have never purchased or kept a slow loris as a pet. If they encounter one, they would leave it to live in its natural habitat. Additionally, there are no beliefs linking the slow loris to mystical practices or its use for consumption.en_US
