dc.description.abstractBackground. Academic stress in students as a condition that is generally caused by excessive pressure on academic achievement which, if not properly addressed, can trigger the onset of depression. Aim. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between academic stress and depressive syndrome in medical faculty students at the University of North Sumatra class of 2021-2023. Methods. This study used an observational analytic design method with a cross-sectional approach. Data were obtained through the PHQ-9 questionnaire with a total sample of 259 people randomly selected according to the inclusion criteria. Data were analyzed through the Spearman correlation test through SPSS software. Results. Based on a total of 259 samples, 193 people (74.5%) were obtained with higher level and lower level academic stress levels as many as 66 people (25.5%), 87 people (33.6%) were moderately depressed, 75 people were mildly depressed (29.0%), 40 people were severely depressed (15.4%), 30 people were moderately severe depression (11.6%), and 27 people were minimally depressed (10.4%). Correlation test showed a significant relationship with p-value = 0.000 (p-value <0.05). Conclusion. There is a relationship between academic stress and depressive syndrome.en_US
