dc.description.abstract | Introduction. Smartphone addiction and academic procrastination are prevalent issues affecting students' academic performance and mental well-being. Among medical students, this relationship is particularly concerning, as it can impair critical learning and career preparation. In Indonesia, there is limited research on this topic, specifically within the context of medical students at Universitas Sumatera Utara. Objective. This study aims to examine the relationship between smartphone addiction and academic procrastination among medical students at Universitas Sumatera Utara, focusing on demographic characteristics, addiction levels, and procrastination tendencies. Method. This research employs an analytic cross-sectional design, utilizing questionnaires distributed to students who meet inclusion criteria. Data were analyzed using statistical correlation tests to determine the association between smartphone addiction and academic procrastination. Results and Discussion. Among 139 students, 51.1% experienced smartphone addiction, with a higher prevalence among females (66.2%). The analysis shows that students with higher levels of smartphone addiction also exhibited increased academic procrastination, with 33.8% showing moderate and 22.3% showing high procrastination levels. The study highlights the impact of smartphone addiction on academic performance, suggesting that excessive smartphone use correlates with increased academic procrastination. Conclusion.
