This study aims to determine and analyze the synthesis and characterization of PEG-6000 based Phase Change Material with the addition of ZnO. The raw materials used are PEG 6000, ZnO and Sodium Dodecyl Benzene Sulfonate (SDBS). This study uses 3 variations of composition with the addition of 4 %, 8 %, and 12 % wt% ZnO nanoparticles and has been successfully synthesized by sonication method. Physical and thermal properties were tested using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy-Energy Dispersive X-Ray (SEM-EDX) characterization, Density testing, Thermal conductivity testing, Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) and Thermogravimetry Analysis (TGA). The results of XRD analysis showed that no new phases were formed in PCM. SEM-EDX analysis results showed that ZnO nanoparticles were not evenly distributed on PEG 6000. Density testing displays an increase in density with the addition of ZnO in each sample. Thermal conductivity testing increased significantly along with the addition of ZnO. DSC results display the latent heat generated in the sample with the addition of 8% ZnO has the best latent heat. TGA results show the addition of 8 % ZnO has the most efficient thermal stability with temperatures below 250℃. Thus, the PCM sample with the addition of 8 % ZnO is the sample with the most optimum composition.
