| dc.description.abstract | The objective of this study was to examine the role of the school library at SMA Negeri 1 Percut Sei Tuan in enhancing students' interest in reading. This research employed a qualitative methodology with a descriptive approach. Informants were selected by using purposive sampling, consisting of seven individuals: the principal, the head of the library, a librarian, a teacher, and students from grades X, XI, and XII. The study utilized both primary and secondary data sources. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and document analysis. The data analysis process was conducted in three stages: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The validity of the data was ensured through triangulation, which included source triangulation, technique triangulation, and time triangulation. The findings of this study were analyzed using thirteen indicators of the role of school libraries in enhancing reading interest. Of these, seven indicators were found to fall short of national library standards. These indicators include improving learning methods, providing motivation, enhancing library collections, fostering collaboration between teachers and librarians, organizing library buildings, arranging library spaces, and decorating school libraries. Six additional indicators were also found to not meet national library standards, namely: intensive reading practices, the role of teachers in fostering reading habits, library collection development, the location of the library, lighting within the library, and air temperature and humidity. The role of the school library at SMA Negeri 1 Percut Sei Tuan in increasing students' reading interest aligns with established guidelines based on research examining the contributions of librarians and teachers within the school environment, as well as the physical and functional aspects of the library itself. | en_US |
