    Abstract
Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M. tuberculosis) is the bacterium that directly causes the infectious disease tuberculosis (TB). According to the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately 10.6 million people worldwide were infected with tuberculosis bacteria in 2021. Between 2016 and 2020, Indonesia was one of the three countries with the highest rates of tuberculosis, MDR-TB, and TB/HIV. Patient adherence to medication is crucial to the success of TB treatment. Patients who do not consistently take their medication are at risk of dropping out and increasing drug resistance (MDR). This study was conducted to determine the relationship between the knowledge and attitudes of families about MDR-TB and the medication adherence of MDR-TB patients at Pirngadi General Hospital in Medan. The study used a quantitative research design. The data source was obtained from questionnaires distributed to respondents. The study population consisted of 281 family members of MDR-TB patients, with a sample size of 74 calculated using the Slovin formula. The analysis technique used in this study was the Chi-Square test. Based on the results of the Chi-Square test, a p-value of <0.05 was obtained, indicating a significant relationship between family knowledge, attitudes, and support toward the medication adherence of MDR-TB patients at Pirngadi General Hospital in Medan. It is recommended that Pirngadi Medan Hospital expand the volunteer program for former MDR TB sufferers or hold meetings with former MDR TB sufferers and increase education and training for patient families to support treatment compliance and create an environment that supports patient recovery.
