Strategies to Increase Employee Engagement in Innovating (Case Study: Telkom Indonesia Medan Regional Office)

This research aims to analyze the internal and external factors that affect employee engagement in innovating at PT Telkom Indonesia Medan regional office, as well as formulate the strategies to improve it. The research methodology uses the Strategy Formulation Analytical Framework which includes the Input Stage, Matching Stage, and Decision Stage. The research data are collected using questionnaires filled by 43 employees, interviews, as well as focus group discussions. The analysis result indicates that there are 20 internal factors (9 strengths and 11 weaknesses) and 20 external factors (9 opportunities and 11 threats) that affect employee engagement in innovating. From these results, 10 strategies are formulated, and through focus group discussions, 5 main strategies are prioritized to be implemented, namely providing special space and time for innovation activities during working hours, adjusting work loads and tasks by involving innovative activities, increasing personal responsibility and innovative solutions with access to the latest technology, strengthening cross-departmental collaboration, and increasing a sharing culture and proactive implementation of innovative ideas.
