The Role of Self Compassion on Psychological Well-Being of Special Education Teachers at SLB N Angkola Timur Tapanuli Selatan
Abstract
Psychological well-being is an important aspect that special education teachers need to have in the process of teaching and educating children with special needs. Psychological well-being itself is a person's ability to maximize their potential, including positive assessment of themselves and past experiences (self-acceptance), the ability to manage the surrounding environment (environmental mastery), independence in thinking and acting (autonomy), being able to develop potential within themselves (personal growth), having a purpose in life (purpose in life) and the ability to establish good relationships with others (positive relations with others). One of the factors that can influence psychological well-being is self-compassion. Self-compassion refers to an individual's ability to pay attention and care to themselves when facing challenges, problems, and difficulties, and to see them as part of the human life experience. This study uses a quantitative approach to determine the role of self-compassion in the psychological well-being of special education teachers at SLB N Angkola Timur Tapanuli Selatan. The subjects in this study consisted of 30 special education teachers selected using saturated sampling techniques. The measuring instrument used in this study was the self-compassion scale with a reliability of 0.943 and the psychological well-being scale with a reliability of 0.915. The results of the simple linear regression test showed an F value = 10.584 with a significance value of 0.003, which means that the regression model can be used to predict psychological well-being. The R value = 0.524 and R square of 0.274. This indicates that self-compassion plays a role of 27.40% in psychological well-being. The standardized beta coefficient for self-compassion is 0.524 with a significance of 0.003 (p <0.05), which indicates that self-compassion plays a role in the psychological well-being of special education teachers at SLB N Angkola Timur Tapanuli Selatan.
