dc.description.abstractThe Soil resistance measurement is essential to determine the resistance value of the soil. Due to frequent human errors and limited measurement parameters in standard earth testers, a study was conducted to design and develop an IoT-based soil resistance measuring device. This device is equipped with soil moisture measurement using the ESP32 microcontroller, and the results can be displayed via a smartphone. Using a comparative method, the measurement results were analyzed against a standard measuring device, the Kyoritsu Earth Tester, based on testing variations in soil conditions (dry and wet) and electrode depth variations of 10 cm, 20 cm, 30 cm, and 40 cm. The study results show that the designed earth tester can display battery voltage, soil moisture, and soil resistance in real time through the Blynk app on a smartphone. The best error percentage in the measurement results was observed in dry soil conditions with 7% moisture content and a 10 cm electrode depth, with a 0% error percentage. The least accurate results were found in wet soil conditions with 61% moisture content and a 40 cm electrode depth, with an error percentage of 76%. The average error percentage from the measurements was 32%, with the device having an accuracy of 68%. The effect of electrode depth on error percentage showed that the deeper the electrode is buried, the higher the error percentage tends to increase. According to the IEC 61557-5 standard, measurements in dry soil with 7% moisture content at a 10 cm depth, and in wet soil with 61% moisture content at a 10 cm depth, met the specified standard.en_US
