dc.description.abstractThe shortage of clean water is increasing along with the rapid growth of human population, industry and environmental pollution. This water scarcity can be overcome by using a solar still to convert seawater into fresh water. In this study, the productivity of fresh water is increased by using the addition of a single basin made of glass right in the middle of the solar still and also replacing the plate wall of the desalination device with a transparent glass wall. There are 2 solar stills built namely double basin (DBDS) Plate wall and double basin (DBDS) Transparent glass wall with three solar stills were examined with respect to temperature, fresh water productivity, and thermal efficiency. This study was conducted on the 4th floor of the Master of Mechanical Engineering at the University of North Sumatra with a latitude of 3.43°N and a longitude of 98.44°E. After comparing the results show the productivity of the results obtained from the DBDS wall plate is 1201 g and on the DBDS transparent glass wall is 1292 g, has an increase of 7.58% compared to the DBDS wall plate. Thermal efficiency obtained for plate wall DBDS is 29.39% and transparent glass wall DBDS is 31.03%.en_US
