Reading literacy is vital for individual and societal development,
granting access to crucial information and knowledge. However,
reading literacy levels in Indonesia remain low, as indicated by
PISA data from 2019 and 2022. Factors contributing to this include
a lack of early reading habits, inadequate educational facilities,
and limited book production. To address this issue, the proposed
solution is to enhance reading facilities, particularly by
constructing a well-equipped and inviting library.
The primary focus of this library design in Medan City is to
establish a comfortable reading space, integrate technology,
and promote interactive learning. Strategic location and
accessibility are also key considerations. This research aims to
formulate a library design concept using principles of behavioral
architecture. The qualitative research method involves site
studies, comparative analysis, and literature review. The findings
will inform the design concept, covering aspects such as spatial
circulation, layout, physical design, material selection, building
structure, and utilities tailored to meet the needs of readers.
Through the application of behavioral architecture principles, the
aim is to create spaces and environments within the library that
prioritize reader comfort.
