The increasing number of people with mental disorders in North Sumatra,
especially the city of Medan, has increased the facilities for rehabilitation centers
for mental disorders in Medan. In Medan, several mental hospitals accommodate
people with mental illnesses who are recovering, but the facilities owned by these
mental hospitals are not up to standard.
The goal is to design buildings and environments that meet the needs of
users with mental disorders. People with mental illnesses need a place to support
the healing of their souls because a good environment can shape behavior patterns
that can affect the patient's psychology. The design of the Rehabilitation Center for
Mental Disorders in this building in Medan was explicitly designed to support
mental health and help heal patients by using architectural elements, namely by
using the Healing Architecture approach in developing the facilities needed by
patients with mental disorders.
In designing the Center for Rehabilitation for Mental Disorders, the method
used in selecting the location was qualitative with descriptive research by observing
matters related to the planning of the institution, followed by surveys and data
collection related to planning for the rehabilitation center, as well as analyzing and
concluding the results of the collected data. I hope the changes to the facilities for
the Mental Disorder Rehabilitation Center in Medan will help people with mental
disorders realize their recovery and raise a positive image of mental health services
among the people of North Sumatra, especially the City of Medan.
