    Abstract
Introduction. Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is a common cause of chronic viral infection worldwide and is primarily treated with tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF), which has potential kidney toxicity. The study aims to investigate the impact of TDF treatment on serum creatinine and urea levels and eGFR as renal function indicators in chronic HBV patients, and further, seeks to provide additional understanding of the side effects of TDF treatment on renal function in chronic HBV patients. Methods. This is a cross-sectional observational study, utilizing retrospective data which focuses on chronic HBV patients receiving TDF treatment for at least 6 months, assessing treatment side effects through serum creatinine and urea, and eGFR. Statistical analysis uses SPSS, with a significance set at p < 0.05. There were 60 participants with chronic HBV recruited, focusing on the effects of TDF treatment on kidney function by using pre- and post-treatment urea and creatinine levels, and eGFR were compared. Results. This research showed varying changes in eGFR and urea and creatinine levels, changes in urea levels were statistically insignificant, meanwhile change of serum creatinine on subjects receiving TDF treatment over a duration of 18 months, and eGFR of all subjects receiving TDF treatment were statistically significant. Conclusion. While no significant difference in urea levels was found in the pre- and post-treatment in any group, significant differences in creatinine levels were observed in the over 18 months group, and in eGFR of all subjects who have received TDF treatment.
