    Abstract
The Impact of Retention Pond Construction on Reducing Peak Flood Discharge in Laguna Pond. This study aims to determine the impact of retention pond construction on reducing peak flood discharge in Laguna Pond. It simulates the capacity of the retention pond to accommodate floodwaters during a 100% peak flood discharge in Laguna Pond. The analysis is carried out until the construction system implemented in the retention pond is operational, highlighting the influence of the retention pond. The retention pond is located specifically in Medan Labuhan, Medan City, North Sumatra. This site was selected because Medan Labuhan District frequently experiences flooding, making it a suitable subject for analysis and discussion regarding the retention pond's effect on reducing peak flood discharge. The research methodology employed in this study is quantitative. Hydrological and hydraulic analyses are conducted. The simulation results of the retention pond capacity, using a pump with a discharge rate of 700 m³/second during peak time, show the water surface elevation in the retention pond. For the sediment pond, the water surface elevation is 4.11 m with a volume of 2,984.121 m³ out of a 4.5 m pond height. For the retention pond, the water surface elevation is 2.06 m with a volume of 6,944.121 m³ out of a 4.5 m pond height. An additional outflow channel is proposed in the second pond (retention pond) to avoid excessive and continuous use of pumps periodically. Furthermore, additional sluice gates are suggested for the channels evaluated in this study. The results of this final project can serve as a theoretical basis for planning retention pond construction as a flood control measure in areas with relatively high peak flood discharge.
