Hubungan Proses Kognitif dengan Intensitas Nyeri Pada Pasien Kanker Payudara di RSUP Haji Adam Malik Medan

Abstract

Breast cancer patients experience pain that can persist continuously. The cognitive process plays a crucial role in the conscious experience of pain, and pain assessment heavily depends on this process. This study aims to examine the relationship between the cognitive process and pain intensity in breast cancer patients at RSUP Haji Adam Malik Medan. This research is a quantitative study with a correlational design. The population in this study consists of 889 individuals, with a sample size of 90 breast cancer patients. The sampling technique used is Purposive Sampling. Data analysis was performed using the Spearman Rank correlation test. The results show that the majority of breast cancer patients with adaptive cognitive processes were 60 individuals (66.7%), and the majority had moderate pain intensity, with 63 individuals (70.0%). A very strong negative correlation was found between cognitive process and pain intensity in breast cancer patients at RSUP Haji Adam Malik Medan (p=0.000). This study suggests that breast cancer patients should have adaptive cognitive processes to reduce the intensity of pain they experience.
