This study examines the story of Daisy Jones, the main character in the novel
Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid, who experiences inner struggles
and growth within the chaotic world of 1970s rock music. This study aims to
analyze the portrayal of Daisy Jones's character and her character development.
This study uses the theory of characterization proposed by M. J. Murphy and the
concept of character development by E. B. Hurlock. The data sources for this
study were taken from the novel in the form of words, phrases or, sentences. The
study employs a descriptive qualitative method, analyzing quotes and dialogues
from the novel. The findings reveal nine aspects of characterization, including
physical descriptions, speech, characters seen by others, past life, conversations of
others, reactions, direct comments, thoughts, and mannerisms. The results show
that Daisy’s character development is shaped by her past, impulsive behavior, and
the tension between her impulsive behaviors, including her pursuit of pleasure and
validation.
