Abstract

The thesis that the writer will explain in this article is about the meaning of the Vegetari-an festival of the Nine Emperor gods in Titipapan Medan Marelan the author aims to know the meanings of what is contained in this celebration here the author briefly ex-plains what is the Vegetarian Festival Nine gods and When the invention. This research entitled "The Meaning of the Vegetarian Festival of the Nine Emperor Gods" which fo-cuses on the meaning contained in the festival. Vegetarian Festival The nine gods of this emperor use the Semiotic Theory which was put forward by Roland Barthes. This data source uses informants and several books and journals. The Vegetarian Festival of the Nine Emperors is a day to commemorate their birthday to the Nine gods and to trust the Chinese community especially Hokien they believe if they pray on the day of birth to the Nine gods it will be answered all the requests according to the interviewee. The festival is held every nine months from the first day to the ninth day according to the lunar calendar of the Chinese New Year. This celebration is held for nine days and the people who at-tend this celebration are required to be vegetarian for nine days. In the cemetery the peo-ple who celebrate this celebration must be clean when they want to come and pray to the Nine emperors.

Skripsi yang akan penulis terangkan di dalam tulisan ini adalah tentang Makna festival Vegetarian Sembilan Dewa kaisar yang berada di Titipapan Medan Marelan penulis ber-tujuan untuk mengetahui makna-makna apa saja yang terkandung di dalam perayaan ini, di sini penulis menjelaskan secara singkat apa itu Festival Vegetarian Sembilan dewa dan Kapan di adakannya.Penelitian ini berjudul ― Makna Festival Vegetarian Sembilan Dewa Kaisar ― yang terfokus pada makna yang terkandung di dalam festival tersebut. Festival Vegetarian Sembilan dewa Kaisar ini menggunakan teori semiotik yang dikemukakan oleh Roland Barthes. Sumber data ini menggunakan informan dan beberapa buku-buku dan jurnal. Festival Vegetarian Sembilan Dewa Kaisar adalah hari untuk memperingati hari lahirnya ke Sembilan dewa dan menrut kepercayaan masarakat cina khusunya Hokien mereka percaya bila mereka berdoa pada hari lahirnya ke Sembilan dewa maka akan terkabul semua permintaannya menurut narasumber yang penulis wawancarai. Festival ini diada-kan pada setiap bulan Sembilan dari hari pertama hingga hari ke Sembilan menurut kal-ender lunar imlek. Perayaan ini diadakan selama Sembilan hari lamanya dan umat yang mengikuti perayaan ini di wajibkan untuk bervegetarian selama Sembilan hari. Di kere-nakan umat yang merayakan perayaan ini harus bersih bila ingin datang dan berdoa ke pada Sembilan dewa kaisar.
