    Abstract
    Background: Schizophrenia is a complex psychiatric disorder characterized by psychotic, negative symptoms and cognitive dysfunction. Current treatment of schizophrenia is effective for the reduction of positive and negative symptoms of schizophrenia, but has not proven successful for the improvement of cognitive symptoms due to limited data surrounding the etiopathogenesis of cognitive impairment. Whole blood screening has been used to identify variations in inflammatory responses among individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia. The aim of this study was to ascertain the presence of potential markers that may be associated with cognitive impairment in individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia. Methods: The method used was a correlative analytic study with a cross-sectional approach, involving 52 subjects who underwent a complete blood test and cognitive function assessment using the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA-Ina). Results: This study showed that there was no significant correlation between leukocyte count and MoCA-Ina score (p=0.369). However, there was a significant relationship between NLR and MLR with MoCA-Ina scores, where an increase in NLR (p=0.006) and MLR (p=0.013) values was associated with decreased cognitive function. Conclussion: These findings indicate that inflammatory status may affect cognition in ODS. This study provides new insights into the role of inflammation in cognitive dysfunction in schizophrenia and suggests the need for further research to explore interventions that can target inflammation as a therapeutic strategy.
