    Abstract
The use of superior varieties and proper fertilization is essential for enhancing plant growth. This study aimed to determine the effect of sugarcane bagasse compost application on the growth and yield of several soybean (Glycine max L.) varieties. The research was conducted at Pasar 1 Tanjung Sari, Medan Selayang District, Medan, North Sumatra (3°33'31.608"N, 98°37'24.3588"E) at an altitude of ± 25 meters above sea level from July to September 2024. A Factorial Randomized Block Design (RCBD) was used, consisting of two factors with three replications. The first factor was three soybean varieties: Dering 1, Dering 2, and Dering 3. The second factor was the dosage of sugarcane bagasse compost at four levels: 0 tons/ha, 15 tons/ha, 30 tons/ha, and 45 tons/ha. The Dering 1 variety significantly produced the highest plant height, flowering time, root dry weight, number of productive branches, harvest time, and number of pods per plant. The Dering 2 variety had the highest seed weight per plant and 100 seed weight, while the Dering 3 variety showed no significant effect on all observed parameters. The 45 tons/ha compost dosage significantly increased plant height, root dry weight, seed weight per plant, and seed weight per plot. The 30 tons/ha compost dosage significantly affected flowering time and the number of pods per plant, while the 15 tons/ha dosage significantly increased the number of productive branches and 100 seed weight. The interaction between the three soybean varieties and compost dosage had a significant effect on plant height at 7 weeks after planting, the number of productive branches, and 100-seed weight.
