Background: Postmenopausal symptoms are known to significantly impact life and are associated with increased anxiety and depression. The prevalence of anxiety symptoms in middle-aged women is reported to be as high as 51%. This study aimed to investigate demographic factors associated with anxiety syndrome in postmenopausal patients. Methods: This cross-sectional analytical study was conducted at Dr. Pirngadi General Hospital, Medan, from June to November 2024. Data collected included age, educational level, duration of menopause, body mass index (BMI), menopausal symptoms, cortisol levels, and GAD-7 scores for assessing anxiety. Subjects were female employees at Dr. Pirngadi Hospital who were in menopause and met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data collection involved interviews. Statistical analysis was performed using bivariate and multivariate tests, with p-values <0.05 considered statistically significant. Results: A total of 42 subjects were included in this study. Analysis showed higher cortisol levels in subjects with anxiety, but the relationship was not statistically significant (p = 0.392). Bivariate analysis revealed significant associations between the duration of menopause (p = 0.030), marital status (p = 0.040), educational level (p = 0.040), and menopausal symptoms (p = 0.008) with anxiety syndrome. However, multivariate analysis showed only educational level was significantly associated with anxiety syndrome (p = 0.044). Conclusions: No association was found between cortisol levels, age, and menopausal symptoms with anxiety syndrome. However, significant relationships were observed between educational level, marital status, duration of menopause, and BMI with anxiety syndrome in postmenopausal employees.en_US
