Abstract

The film Pada Zaman Dahulu was chosen as the research object because this film contains educational values that are relevant to everyday life. This research aims to describe the intrinsic elements and instinct representation of the main character in the animated film Pada Zaman Dahulu. The theories used in research are structural theory and literary psychology theory. This research uses descriptive qualitative methods. The data in the research is the film animated Pada Zaman Dahulu Belalang and Semut. The data collection techniques used were listening, taking notes and screenshot techniques. The analysis technique used is analysis of the content, dialogue quotes and supporting images in the film. The research results found in the intrinsic elements are the theme of balance between hard work and enjoying life. The plot in is a mixed plot. There are 13 settings in consisting 7 place settings, 2 time settings and 4 atmosphere settings. There are 17 characters in the film consisting 12 main characters and 5 additional characters. The message contained is the importance of preparing early while trying to face future problems, and never delaying work that has an impact on the future. The representation of the main chracter’s instincts includes classification of emotions contained in film is 30 data consisting 10 fear, 5 anger, 11 joy, 2 sadness and 2 shame. And there are 17 data regarding defense and conflict mechanisms consisting of 7 sublimations, 2 projections, 1 diversion, 2 rationalizations, 3 aggressions, 1 apathy and 1 fantasy. The instinct contained in this film is the instinct of life.
