dc.description.abstractHumans are biologically formed into two types, namely men and women, the physical differences between the two are very striking. The arrangement of roles between men and women often causes gender inequality, with men tending to play a role in the public sphere, while women are more involved in domestic tasks. Preparing leaders thoroughly, including women, requires special preparation with qualities such as justice, impartiality, vision, competence, and management skills. To develop cadres who are able to lead at the national and regional levels, it is important to examine the dynamics of gender and the role of women in leadership in HMI in the University of North Sumatra area. This study aims to determine what "gender dynamics and the role of women in leadership" are like. The research method used is a qualitative research case study approach. With data collection techniques carried out using observation methods and in-depth interviews with purposive techniques. The results of the study show that within the scope of the HMI organization in the USU area, both women and men are given support to develop their potential without distinguishing status or background. The level of participation in the HMI organization is very good and balanced between men and women. Factors that influence women's participation in leadership in HMI such as strong charisma, good communication patterns and proper decision making. However, there are only two female General Chairmen of the Commissariat, namely the General Chairwoman of HMI FISIP and the Acting General Chairwoman of FK USU. This shows that there is still a culture that requires a leader to be a man even though there are many women in the management structure. And there is no requirement that only men can become General Chairmen. So anyone is given the freedom to become a leader in HMI as long as they meet the requirements, be it men or women. Women's leadership becomes a role model for everyone in the organization because of the qualities they have. In addition, the good communication skills of female leaders make them reliable liaisons both internally and externally in the organization. In decision making, female leaders are always involved as a counterbalance.en_US
