    Abstract
Samosir regency is categorized as a super priority tourist destination. The number of population and tourists in the area has been increasing annually. Thus, the volume and types of waste generated has becoming more varied. The initial survey found approximately 40 tonnes of waste generated daily at Samosir where 25 tonnes were transported to landfills. Pangururan subdistrict contributed to the highest volume of waste transported to the landfills, approximately 15 tonnes per day. A comprehensive waste management system from upstream to downstream is required as not to disrupt the environmental and public health. This study was done to analyze the waste management system at Pangururan subdistrict Samosir regency. An observational descriptive study was used on 43 research samples who were cleaning service users and 7 garbage dumps located at Pangururan. The study showed that waste sorting, waste collection, and transportation process on the cleaning service users and garbage dumps did not meet the requirements. Similarly, the waste management and final waste processing were also failed to meet the requirements. It is recommended for cleaning service users to participate in waste sorting, starting from the source, also for Environmental Service to provide public education on the importance of proper waste management and to improve adequate waste processing facilities.
