Abstract

Legal protection efforts available to rights holders who are harmed by paid live streaming of football matches on Instagram without permission are very important to enforce copyright and minimize the losses incurred. By sending a warning, reporting the violation to the DJKI Kemenkumham, filing a civil lawsuit with the Commercial Court, and filing a criminal lawsuit with the National Police, rights holders can take effective steps to resolve the copyright infringement problem and obtain proper legal protection. From the analysis that has been carried out, it can be concluded that paid live streaming of football matches on Instagram by other parties without permission from the rights holder is a serious copyright infringement and is punishable under the Copyright Law (UUHC) in Indonesia. This study uses a normative legal research type, which is determined based on the background and formulation of the problem taken. The normative legal research method is defined as an approach to legal regulations, both from a hierarchical (vertical) perspective and a harmonious relationship (horizontal) between legal regulations. The results of the study show that the legal provisions for football broadcasting rights on paid live streaming on Instagram are regulated in Law Number 28 of 2014 concerning Copyright. Football broadcasting rights holders have exclusive rights to broadcast matches, including through digital platforms such as Instagram. Broadcasting without permission from the broadcasting rights holder constitutes a copyright violation. In addition, comprehensive efforts are needed involving the government, law enforcement officers, social media platforms, and the community to increase the effectiveness of broadcasting rights protection in the digital era. Regulatory updates and increasing digital literacy in the community are also important to suppress copyright infringement on social media.
