    Abstract
Biomass-based alternative energy has garnered significant interest in numerous countries. The Sugar Palm bunches charcoal briquettes represent a significant advancement in biomass energy. The objective of this study was to analyse the properties of charcoal briquettes produced from sugar palm bunches (Arenga longipes Mogea) and determine the effect of particle size and adhesive content on sugar palm bunch charcoal briquettes (Arenga longipes Mogea). The study involved categorising the size of charcoal powder into three particle sizes: 20 mesh; 40 mesh; and particles that passed through a 60 mesh. The charcoal powder will be combined with three different levels of starch adhesive concentration, specifically 11%, 13%, and 15%. The combination of charcoal powder and adhesive is moistened, then shaped and dehydrated in an oven at a temperature of 103 ± 2°C. Once the samples have been dried, they will undergo analysis to determine their density, compressive strength, heat content, water content, ash content, volatile matter content, and bound carbon content. The research findings indicate that the samples utilising 60 mesh passes achieved the maximum briquette density, with an average value of 0.58 g/cm3. The sample with the highest compressive strength has a value of 27.52 kgf/cm² and was obtained using a 60 mesh size and 15% adhesive. The calorimetric analysis revealed that the maximum calorific value recorded was 6,180 cal/g. The air content testing yielded samples with the minimum air content, specifically 3.92%. According to the results of ash content testing, the briquettes with the lowest ash content had a value of 10.49%. The acquired value for the amounts of evaporative chemicals was relatively high, with the lowest value recorded at 32.65%. In addition, the carbon bond values obtained varied between 16.65% and 52.36%. charcoal briquettes produced from Sugar palm bunches have quality that meets some of the specifications set out by SNI 01-6235-2000, namely in terms of density, heat content and water content.
