| dc.description.abstract | Charcoal briquettes are one of the alternative energy sources to reduce
dependence on fossil fuels, including to meet the needs of the global market. This
study aimed to evaluate the characteristics of charcoal briquettes made from
branches of three mangrove species and analyze the influence of the presence of
bark and different species of mangrove wood branches on the properties of
charcoal briquettes. Charcoal briquettes are made from branches of three
mangrove species, namely Rhizophora mucronata, Bruguiera gymnorrhiza, and
Bruguiera sexangula. The production process begins with converting branch
wood (with bark and without bark), followed by carbonization by pyrolysis
method, mixing with starch adhesive, and manufacture of cylindrical charcoal
briquettes measuring 5 cm by 15 cm. The results of the study showed that
mangrove wood branches are very suitable for use as raw materials for charcoal
briquettes. The resulting charcoal briquettes have met SNI 01-6235-2000
standards for moisture content and calorific value. Statistically, there are no
significant differences in the properties observed among charcoal briquettes,
either due to the presence of bark (with and without bark) and the type of
mangrove wood. The results show that mangrove wood branches can meet the
industry standards of charcoal briquet-making and the utilization of mangrove
forests as a source of raw materials will be sustainable because only branches
alone can be utilized. | en_US |
