dc.description.abstract | Using used tyre waste in the form of crumb rubber as an asphalt mixture can reduce waste and increase resistance to cracking and plastic deformation. On the other hand, adding crumb rubber as an asphalt mixture produces high viscosity values, is not homogeneous and can reduce workability in the field. Hence, it needs to be mixed with additives such as high-density polyethylene (HDPE) which can overcome the problems caused by crumb rubber and increase the stability value of the asphalt mixture. This study aims to determine the effect of adding crumb rubber and HDPE waste to the AC-WC asphalt layer mixture to improve the mixture's quality and reduce waste in circulation. The mixing method uses the wet method, namely, crumb rubber and HDPE mixed directly on asphalt. Before the crumb rubber and HDPE process is mixed with asphalt, the crumb rubber and HDPE are heated separately at high temperature, then mixed with asphalt 60/70 until it reaches homogeneity. Crumb rubber is added with varying levels of 8%, 10%, and 12% of the asphalt weight, while HDPE waste is added with varying levels of 10% and 12%. The number of test specimens made is divided into three parts, namely Marshall Test specimens for determining the Optimum Asphalt Content (KAO), Marshall Test specimens using KAO with the addition of crumb rubber and HDPE waste, and specimens for Wheel Tracking Machine (WTM) testing. The tests carried out were Marshall testing, WTM testing, and Extraction testing as a control of asphalt content. From the study results, it is known that adding crumb rubber and HDPE to asphalt affects its properties by increasing the value of the softening point and specific gravity and the penetration value of asphalt. The impact of adding crumb rubber and HDPE also affects the value of Marshall parameters, namely the increase in stability, VFB, and MQ values. The highest stability value was obtained at 1875 kg with 8% crumb rubber and 10% HDPE. From the WTM test results, it is known that the addition of Crumb Rubber + HDPE has a greater dynamic stability value than without the addition, which indicates that the mixture has resistance to rutting. | en_US |
