| dc.description.abstract | Mangrove forests can absorb 3-5 times more carbon than terrestrial forests. Carbon stock is the carbon absorbed by mangroves and converted into organic carbon that stored in biomass during the photosynthesis process, as well as contained in soil organic carbon. This research was conducted in June 2024 at Jigo Beach, Pintu Air Village, Pangkalan Susu District, Langkat Regency, which aims to estimate mangrove carbon stocks, soil organic carbon, and CO2 absorption in the mangrove forest of Jigo Beach. This research was conducted using the line transect plot method (10 x 10 m). There are three stations, each station has three transect plots. Sampling was done by non-destructive sampling by measuring DBH (Diameter at Breast Height) of mangrove trees, and soil sampling was done on each plot with a depth of 10 cm. Mangrove biomass was calculated using allometric equations. Then, biomass was converted into carbon and CO2 reserves, where the percentage value of carbon is 0.47 of biomass. Meanwhile, the calculation of soil organic carbon was carried out using the LOI (Loss on Ignitation) method. The results showed that the total carbon stock value in Pantai Jigo was 273,51 tonsC/ha and the CO2 uptake value in Pantai Jigo was 93,917 tonsCO2/ha. The highest value of carbon stock and CO2 sequestration is found at station 3, which is 123.1179 tonsCO2/ha, because the biomass value at station 3 is higher than at stations 1 and 2, because the number of stands, species density and average tree diameter at station 3 is higher, while at stations 1 and 2 there has been a lot of damage due to logging. | en_US |
