The Relationship of Knowledge and Attitude with Ownership of Healthy Homes in Watershed Area Pulau Semikat Village Sirapit District Langkat Regency
Abstract
Housing is one of the important indicators in creating a favorable environment for public health. Houses that do not meet health requirements in watershed areas can increase the risk of transmission of infectious diseases as well as other health problems such as diarrheal diseases, and skin infections. This study aims to determine the relationship of knowledge and attitude with ownership of healthy homes in watershed area Pulau Semikat Village, Sirapit District, Langkat Regency. This research method uses a cross-sectional design with purposive sampling technique. The sample in this study amounted to 73 respondents, and data were collected through observation and interviews. The results of univariate analysis showed that as many as 49 (67.1%) family heads had knowledge in the poor category, as many as 23 (31.5%) family heads had attitudes in the negative category and as many as 66 (90.4%) family heads had unhealthy homes. The results of bivariate analysis showed that there was a significant relationship between knowledge and healthy home ownership (p<0.05). However, there was no significant relationship between attitude and healthy home ownership (p>0.05). Family heads need to be educated and socialized about healthy housing standards so as to increase awareness about the importance of maintaining a healthy home environment and encourage cooperation between residents in creating a clean and healthy environment.
