Optimum Coordination of Dual Setting Directional Overcurrent Relay Using Dual Simplex Method on Distributed Generation Connected IEEE 9 Bus Networks
Abstract
In the process of distributing electrical power, there are often faults that cause power outages. One of them is an overcurrent fault caused by a 1-phase, 2-phase, or 3-phase short circuit. These faults can cause large currents to flow in electrical equipment exceeding its nominal current so that it can be damaged. To overcome this problem, a protection relay in the form of an overcurrent relay (OCR) is needed. In this research dual setting directional overcurrent relay (DS - DOCR) is used to simulate short circuit current protection in IEEE 9 bus network connected to distributed generation. To obtain optimum coordination, the TMS (DS - DOCR) settings are optimized with the dual simplex method . Based on simulation results, the use of DS DOCR can protect the network from short circuit faults well and coordinated after optimization. The operating time after optimization in 1-phase and 3-phase short circuit tests is reduced by 8.34% and 16.9% respectively.
