This study aims to determine the effect of group counseling self-management techniques on increasing the learning motivation of children in conflict with the law at Special Development Institute for Children (LPKA) Class I Medan. The method used is a quasi-experiment with a single-group interrupted time series design, in which measurements are taken on the subject 2 times before the intervention and 2 times after the intervention with the aim of seeing the consistency of the subject's learning motivation condition. The research subjects were 8 children selected by purposive sampling technique. Group counseling self-management techniques is carried out with a duration of 90-120 minutes for 4 meetings / day containing 5 sessions, of which meetings 1 and 2 are carried out in two consecutive days, meetings 2 and 3 are 7 days apart, and meetings 3 and 4 are 14 days apart based on the theory of applying self-management techniques by Cormier et al. (2008). The measuring instrument used was the Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire Scale by Pintrich et al. (2014) adapted by Ardiansyah (2019). Statistical analysis was conducted using Mann Whitney non-parametric statistics, obtaining a value of p = 0.035 (p < 0.05). This result shows that there is a significant difference between the measurement of learning motivation before and after the intervention, so it is concluded that group counseling with self-management techniques has a significant effect in increasing the learning motivation of children in conflict with the law. The results of the effect size test using Cohen's d show a value of d = 0.11 or 11% (d < 0.50). This means that the effect given is categorized as small.en_US
