    Analysis of Pesticide Management Behavior and Health Complaints on Cabbage Farmers at Simpang Empat Sub-District Karo District in 2024

    Abstract
    Pesticides are the main choice for farmers to control pests and diseases in plant maintenance efforts. Pesticides are toxic substances that need to be managed so as not to cause harm to health and the environment. This study aimed to analyze the pesticide management behavior and health complaints on cabbage farmers at Simpang Empat Sub-distict Karo District in 2024. This study used descriptive survey with cross sectional design. The research was done at 3 villages at Simpang Empat Sub-district using purposive techniques with 41 pesticide-spraying farmers. Descriptive data was obtained using SPSS software and presented in distribution table and cross tabulation. The study showed that the most cabbage farmers were male with 36 subject (87.8%), aged between 31-40 years with 15 people (39%),with last of education in junior high school with 20 people (48.8%). Futhermore, farmers with the land area of less than 0.5 hectars were 16 people (39%), working hours between 5-8 hours were 21 people (51.2%), and working years between 1-15 years were 26 people (63.4%). Fungicides and insecticides were the type of psticides used, and 24 farmers (58.6%) used pesticides with more than two active ingridients. Most farmers were adequate on the knowledge, attitude, and action category. Thirty two farmers (78%) had health complaints within the last month with the most symptoms are dizziness, fatigue, and excess sweating. It is recommended for farmers to comply the rules in pesticides management, agriculture agency and health services to provide counselling, and future researchers to test the cholinestrase level in blood.
