The Effectiveness of the University of North Sumatra Retention Pond in Reducing Flooding on Road Dr. Mansyur Medan City with Storm Water Management Model 5.2
Abstract
A retention pond is a pond or reservoir that collects rainwater for a certain
period of time that serves to cut off the peak of flooding that occurs in a drainage
or river. In Medan City, there are several retention ponds in an effort to control
floods, one of which is the University of North Sumatra Retention Pond. In 2023,
the construction of the University of North Sumatra remembrance pond will be
carried out to overcome problems that occur in the Medan City area. The purpose
of this study is to determine the drainage condition of Jl. Dr. Mansyur which passes
through the University of North Sumatra area after the existence of a retention
pond. In this study, the data used is secondary data in the form of daily rainfall for
10 years. The results of the calculation of rainfall planned with a range of 10 years
are 160.60 mm/hour. The next step is to conduct a simulation using SWMM 5.2
software to determine the effectiveness of the retention pool at the University of
North Sumatra.
