    Abstract
Currently, the need for space to accommodate UMKM activities at the University of North Sumatra is vital to provide a suitable platform for developing and growing micro, small, and medium enterprises in the campus environment. As a leading university in the North Sumatra region, USU has the responsibility to encourage regional economic development by fulfilling adequate building needs for UMKM., whether business actors are students or outside the campus. However, until now, the University of North Sumatra has not fully demonstrated its role in accommodating these UMKM buildings. This shows the minimal response to accommodation for UMKM business actors and, therefore, how to provide a space that can accommodate UMKM activities and other supporting functions that are comfortable and responsive for users. This research describes how to design the UMKM Square collaborative building using a green architecture approach. The method used in this design is to follow the KRK design instructions, site survey, data collection by observation, documentation, literature study, and comparative study of projects that have similar themes, which are then used to analyze data, formulate design concepts, and adjust design designs. as well as presenting the results of designs for UMKM designs. After carrying out an analysis process based on the direction of the sun, building orientation, and considering open space, this building has two masses that are separated according to their function but still connect the two masses via a bridge. The placement of these two masses also forms a wide space or hallway which functions as an open space for communal activities. This open space also plays a role in providing connectivity between building masses. The final result of this design process is the existence of 2 building masses (multi-mass) with an area of ±3,500 m2 with a total of 2 to 3 floors and oriented to Jl. Dr. Mansyur. The design uses a green architecture approach through the application of several Green Building Assessment Criteria (BGH) under directions from the Public Works and Spatial Planning Service (PUPR). The result of implementing Green Buildings is that the Building obtained a total of 96 points with a percentage of 58% and received the Primary Green Building category.
