Strongyloidiasis Stercoralis A Nematode Infection and Its Hyperinfection Aspects
Abstract
The nematode infection, Strongyloidiasis has become increasingly recognized world – wide. Strongyloidiasis in human caused by parasite Strongyloides stercoralis which is found commonly in the tropical and subtropical areas. The worms live mainly in the upper part of ileum and yeyunum, and is believed to be parthenogenetic. Transmission is commonly by skin penetrarion with the infective filariform larvae. In human, the worm may live in years and develop into hiperinfective cases – mostly in an immunocompromised / immunosupressed hosts -- which may lead to severity and can be fatal.
