Disease transmission in children is highly facilitated through hands, as they harbor numerous germs and bacteria. Children aged 6-24 months are particularly vulnerable to ailments like worm infestation and diarrhea, often contracted through hand-to-mouth contact during feeding by family members. Such occurrences significantly heighten the risk of stunting in children within this age group. Preventing disease transmission in children necessitates an examination of various factors influencing handwashing behavior among families with stunted children aged 6-24 months. This study adopts an analytical observational approach with a cross-sectional design. The research population comprises mothers with stunted children aged 6-24 months residing in selected locations in Deli Serdang Regency, totaling 480 individuals, with a sample size of 150 selected through random sampling. Data collection involves the use of questionnaires, while data analysis employs multiple logistic regression tests. Results indicate that significant independent variables influencing handwashing behavior with soap among mothers with stunted children aged 6-24 months include knowledge (p=0.009), attitude (p=0.001), and family support (p=0.017). Attitude emerges as the most influential factor (p=0.001) affecting handwashing behavior with soap among mothers in Deli Serdang Regency. Effective handwashing behavior among mothers is contingent upon a positive attitude, reflecting a willingness to adopt handwashing practices with soap. Recommendations for mothers include enhancing knowledge to foster favorable attitudes toward handwashing with soap. Additionally, family support plays a crucial role in setting examples for consistent handwashing with soap before interacting with children. Healthcare professionals are encouraged to innovate in disseminating information to heighten awareness among families with stunted children aged 6-24 months regarding the importance of handwashing with soap before interacting with children.en_US
