    Lexical Relations in the Weeknd’s Selected Song Lyrics A Semantic Analysis

    Abstract
    The purpose of this study was to analyze the important of lexical relations and meaning properties as part of semantic features. This research also aims to explain the types of lexical relations and to find the most dominant type of lexical relations in lyric of The Weeknd’s songs. This study uses descriptive qualitative methods as the research design because the purpose of this study is to provide a deep analysis of the data. The researcher only analyzes six selected songs from The Weeknd, namely: In the Night, The Hills, Starboy, Die for You, Call Out My Name and Save Your Tears. The research results showed that The Weeknd’s selected songs consisted of 217 samples of lexical relations. The samples taken were 51% homonyms, 31% antonym samples, 14% synonym samples, 3% hyponym samples and 1% polysemy samples. And for contextual analysis based on John Lyon’s theory (1977) shows that Context of Person appeared 117 times or 53.77% and is the most dominant type in the data, then successively followed by Context of Mood which appears 56 times or 25.47%, Context of Place appears 20 times or 8.49%, Context of Time appears 22 times or 8.49%, Context of Formality appeared 6 times or 2.83% and Context of Subject-matter appeared 1 time or 0.095%.
