    Abstract
    This thesis is entitled "The Legend of Hau Sisada-sada in Tapian Nauli Village; Folklor Study”, the aim of writing this thesis is to analyze the intrinsic elements and functions of the Hau Sisada-sada legend. This legend is one of the legends that tells the story of a king's daughter who turned into a lush tree. The method used in this writing is a qualitative descriptive method with field research techniques using observation, interviews and literature methods. This research uses the structure theory proposed by Nurgiantoro and the function theory proposed by W.R. Bascom. From the results of the discution it can be concluded that; The theme in this legend is "Forbidden love". A king who fell in love with a woman who still had family ties. The plot used in this legend is the advanced plot. The background / setting found in the Hau Sisada-sada legend is: Settings include: Parpatihan Village, Sipahutar District, Parembasan Aek Nauli Parpatihan, Harangan (forest), PT. TPL. The time setting is: In 1600, in ancient times and at night. The characters in the Hau sisada-sada legend are: Pangumban Bosi Simanjuntak (Obedient to customs), Sarmina Gokmauli (Stubborn), Raja Manalu (Likes to impose his will), Ompung Parmoncat Babiat, Marga Sembiring. Point of view the point of view used by the author is third person point of view. The language style uses sarcasm, namely a language style that is hurtful, harsh and harsh. The message in the legend of Hau Sisada-sada is: Don't force your will too much. It is important to be sure of your actions because if you are careless it will cause disaster. The function of the folklore of the Hau Sisada-Sada legend is: as a projection system, as an educational tool, as a tool to suppress or coerce people's behavior and control society.
