Metafora Penyakit dalam Bahasa Karo

Abstract

This research aims to discover the types of DISEASE metaphors in the Karo language, reveal the meaning of the metaphors, and produce a mapping of the DISEASE metaphor. Research data was obtained using the listening method and the skill method through field studies. All data was analyzed using the matching method and its validity was tested using triangulation techniques. This research uses conceptual metaphor theory to conceptualize metaphorical expressions of illness by developing image-schema as an analytical tool. The research results showthat the metaphorical categorization of DISEASE in the Karo language originates from eight metaphorical images, namely TRAVEL, POWER, FLUID, OBJECTS, WAR, HIDDEN OBJECTS, FIRE, and PLANTS. The category of DISEASE as POWER has subcategories of DISEASE as NATURAL POWER AND PHYSICAL POWER. The meaning of DISEASE is mapped through four schemes, namely the SOURCE-PATH-DESTINATION scheme, the POWER scheme, the CONTAINER scheme, and the SPACE scheme. . The DISEASE category as POWER is the most widely used DISEASE metaphor category, with ten data in the Karo language, andalso has the most subcategories.
