Terjemahan Istilah, Kata dan Ungkapan Perang pada Buku “孙子兵法Seni Perang Sun Zi"

Abstract

This research analyzes the result of the translation of terms, words, and idiomatic expressions related to war in rite Chinese classic book, "Sun Zi Art of War" from Mandarin to /11do11esia11 . The research focuses 011 e valuating the accuracy, acceptability, and legibility of tlte tra11slatio11. The evaluation method is based 011 a theoretical frame work that suggests accuracy reflects the harmony between the origi11al t ext and its tra11slatio11 and acceptability which are referred to tlte principles and 11orms of target language, and legibility measures the ease of 1111dersta11di11g the lra11slated text. The results of this research indicate that, first, evaluating the quality of this translation provides a comprehensive translation work evaluation. This result is expected to enhance profounder understanding about the challenge in transferring cultural values and ideas from the source lang11age to tlte target la11guage, especially in the litera,y context of classic milita,y. Secondly, the tra11slatio11 quality of "Sun Zi Ari of War", from the acc11racy poi11t of view, reaches lo 22.45%, its less accuracy is 18.37%, and lack of acc11racy is 2 I .43%. Viewed from its acceptability, the translation acceptability of this classic book is 24.49%, its less acceptahility is 18.37%, and its lack of acceptability is I 5.31%. Viewed from its legibility, its high level of legibility is 47.96%, its moderate level of legibility is 12.24%, and its low level of l egibility is 7.14%.
