dc.description.abstractBackground : Root canal treatment aims to eliminate bacterial infections within the root canal system and prevent reinfection. The ideal filling material should have antimicrobial properties, good dentinal tubule penetration, and prevent microleakage. Chitosan and propolis are natural materials with high potential in medical applications, including as endodontic sealers, due to their antimicrobial, biocompatibility, and adhesion properties. The combination of chitosan-propolis nanoparticles in endodontic sealers can enhance sealing ability and mechanical properties.Objective : This study aims to compare the chemical and mechanical characteristics of nanoparticle-based chitosan-propolis sealers (nCOS-P) with commercial bioceramic sealers.Methods : This experimental laboratory study tested the material characteristics using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscope – Energy Dispersive X-ray (SEM-EDX), and mechanical properties tests such as setting time, flow, and film thickness. Samples used were nanoparticle chitosanpropolis- based sealers and commercial bioceramic sealers.Results : The results showed that the nCOS-P sealers had diffraction peaks and element compositions comparable to bioceramic sealers, as well as faster setting times, better flowability, and thinner film thickness compared to commercial bioceramic sealers. Conclusion : The nCOS-P sealers demonstrated good potential as an alternative root canal sealer with superior physical and chemical properties compared to commercial bioceramic sealers. The combination of chitosan and propolis offers advantages in terms of penetration, sealing ability, and biocompatibility.en_US
