Pemanfaatan Ekstrak Etanol Buah Pare (Momordica charantia L.) sebagai Hepatoprotektor pada Mencit (Mus musculus L.) yang Dipaparkan Obat Antinyamuk Elektrik (Allethrin)
The Utilization Of The Ethanol Extract Of The Bitter Melon Fruit (Momordica charantia L.) As a Hepatoprotector in Mice (Mus Musculus L.) Exposed By The Electric Mosquito Repellent (Allethrin)
Abstract
Free radicals found in electrical mosquito repellent can cause damage to the liver organs. The damage can be treated by administering antioxidants. Bitter melon (Momordica charantia L.) contains of the flavonoid compounds which has function as natural antioxidants. The research on the use of ethanol extract of the bitter melon fruit (Momordica charantia L). as a hepatoprotector in mice (Mus musculus L.) which were exposed to the electric mosquito repellent drugs was carried out at the Laboratory of Animal Physiology and Experimental Animal Houses of the Biology Study Program, FMIPA USU, Laboratory of Bioorganic Chemistry, Chemistry Study Program, FMIPA USU and Laboratory of Anatomical Pathology, Faculty of Medicine, University of North Sumatra, Medan, North Sumatra. The experimental method used was a complete random design (RAL) consisting of 6 treatments and 4 replicates. The treatment consists of control (no treatment); only exposure to electrical mosquito repellent drugs; exposure to electric mosquito repellent and vitamin C; exposure to electric mosquito repellent and given by ethanol extract of bitter melon fruit with doses of 50, 75 and 100mg/KgBB. The test animals used were male mice (Mus musculus L.) as many as 24 heads. The observations were examined included the morphology (weight, color, texture, surface, and index of liver organs) and the histology (normal hepatocytes, parenchymatous degeneration, hydrophilic degeneration and necrosis). The results show that bitter melon ethanol extract can improve the weight, color, texture, surface and index of liver organs as well as increase the number of normal hepatocytes and reduce the parenchymatous degeneration, the hydrophilic degeneration and the cell necrosis. The ethanol extract of the bitter melon with a dose of 100 mg/KgBB has the potential to be a hepatoprotector in mice exposed to electric mosquito repellent.
