    Dinamika Penguat Identitas Etnik Simalungun (Hasimalungunon) di Balik Berdirinya Gereja Kristen Protestan Simalungun

    Abstract
    Disertasi ini membahas tentang dinamika penguatan identitas etnik yang dialami orang Simalungun di balik berdirinya GKPS pada 1963 di Simalungun. Perjuangan komunitas orang Kristen Simalungun menunjukkan identitasnya sebagai reaksi atas aksi zending 1903 melakukan misi menyebarkan agama Kristen, politik kolonial Belanda 1907 menguasai Simalungun, dominasi orang Batak Toba dalam Gereja Batak yang dikenal Huria Kristen Batak Protestan (HKBP), menumbuhkan kesadaran identitas orang Simalungun. Pandangan zending yang menganggap identitas orang Batak Toba sama dengan orang Simalungun ternyata keliru, sehingga proses konversi agama berjalan lambat. Namun pada sisi lain orang Simalungun sadar akan identitasnya (hasimalungunon) yang diabaikan dalam organisasi gereja Batak Toba yang dibentuk zending. Fokus pertanyaan penelitian ini adalah bagaimana dinamika penguatan identitas etnik Simalungun dalam berdirinya GKPS? Dengan sub fokus khusus yaitu : Bagaimana identitas etnik Simalungun sebelumnya; Dinamika apa di balik berdirinya institusi GKPS ?, Bagaimana GKPS menjadi lembaga penyangga identitas Simalungun?, dan Bagaimana keterkaitan identitas etnik dengan pembangunan di Simalungun ?. Untuk menjawab fokus penelitian, digunakan metode penelitian kualitatif, wawancara mendalam dilakukan terhadap lebih 17 orang informan, observasi di wilayah Kecamatan Raya dan Pematang Siantar, serta didukung sejumlah dokumen arsip yang sezaman, dan literatur yang bertalian dengan penelitian. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan identitas primordial orang Simalungun telah menguat dalam proses terbentuknya GKPS, dalam dinamika tahapan historis temporal 1903, 1928, 1953 dan 1963 yang merupakan puncak perjuangan sehingga berdiri gereja mereka dengan nama GKPS. Identitas orang Simalungun telah ditunjukkan dengan kebersamaan dalam „ahab Simalungun‟, dan meluas bukan hanya di kalangan komunitas Simalungun Kristen. Orang Simalungun memiliki motivasi untuk bekerja maksimal bukan hanya secara kolektif namun juga secara individu, untuk kemajuan dirinya serta pada gilirannya dalam segala aspek kehidupan dengan tetap memperhatikan identitas etnis „hasimalungunon‟, dalam melaksanakan pembangunan di Simalungun.
     
    This dissertation is focused on the dynamics of strengthening ethnic identity experienced by Simalungun people behind the establishment of Christian Protestant Church of Simalungun in 1963 in Simalungun. The struggle of the Simalungun Christian community shows its identity as a reaction to the zending 1903 carry out the mission of spreading Christianity. Dutch colonial politics in 1907 controlled Simalungun, domination of the Toba Batak people in a church known as the Huria Kristen Batak Protestant (HKBP), raise awareness of Simalungun identity. Zending view who thinks the identity of the Toba Batak people the same as Simalungun turns out to be wrong, so the process of religious conversion is going slow. But on the other side Simalungun people are aware of their identity (hasimalungunon) which is neglected in the church organization of Batak Toba formed by zending. The problem of the research is how is the dynamics of strengthening the Simalungun ethnic identity in the establishment of GKPS? With a special sub focuses: How was the previous Simalungun ethnic identity; What is the dynamic behind the establishment of GKPS institution?; How does GKPS become a Simalungun identity support institution? And how does ethnic identity relate to development in Simalungun? Qualitative methods were used to answer this research, in-depth interviews were conducted with more than 17 informants, observations done in the Raya and Pematang Siantar Districts, and supported by a number of contemporary archival documents, and literature related to this research. The results of this research indicate that the primordial identity of Simalungun people has strengthened in the process of the formation of GKPS, in the dynamic of the temporal historical stages of 1903, 1928, 1953 and 1963 which is the peak of the struggle so that their church stands under the name GKPS. The identity of the Simalungun people has been shown in togetherness with 'Ahab Simalungun', and extends not only to the community of Simalungun Christian. Simalungun people have the motivation to work optimally not only collectively but also individually, for the progress and it turn in all aspects of life while still paying attention to hasimalungunon “ethnic identity”, in carrying out development in Simalungun.
