Designing UMKM Creativity Center in Medan City with the Application of Metaphor Architecture

Abstract

The design of UMKM Creativity Center is a strategy to support the development of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (UMKM) in Medan City. By analysing the design concept and the needs of UMKM practitioners, this project aims to create a building that evokes collaboration, creativity, and product development. The research method used uses a descriptive data collection method. This method consists of collecting, reviewing, and analysing written sources or literature relevant to the topic of the report. A literature study was used to compare several buildings to get an in-depth understanding of the needs of UMKM in Medan City. UMKM Creativity Center in Medan City with the theme of metaphor architecture is used as the identity of the creativity center for UMKM practitioners. Metaphors can be reflected in the physical form of the building, such as coming from objects that are generally always used by UMKM practitioners to create their products. The results show that the application of a good concept can be taken from several examples with visible design success, achieving a good concept with a relevant theme as well as possible in order to achieve a building that realises activities optimally for its users.
